Steven Smith for Speaker

“Sometimes writing a letter of recommendation or an endorsement is difficult to do.  I’ve been asked many times by students or past employees and sometimes it’s a struggle.  Not a moments hesitation with this endorsement of Deputy Speaker Steven Smith to be the next Speaker of the NH House. 

I’ve been in the House alongside 5 different Speakers already.  I can unequivocally say Steve has all the tools and dedication to organize our House for all its members and treat all Representatives fairly and without animosity.  I’ve worked with Chairman Smith when I wanted a bill passed in his committee he wasn’t particularly thrilled with.  I saw first-hand, with honesty and integrity, how Steve evaluated my testimony and guided this rookie legislator to ultimately pass that legislation for the good of the citizens of NH. 

As Deputy Speaker, we have seen Steve do the work of The House with efficiency and good humor.  He is ready to step in and do the work Day 1.  Fair but firm might be the best description of Deputy Speakers style for keeping The House in order.   Most of us have not seen the hours and hours Steve has put in behind-the-scenes.  He’s been nothing but a dedicated public servant and all the while he’s learned the job from the front-lines.

In all my time in The House, I’ve not yet seen, and can’t imagine, a better-suited individual, in terms of preparation, intelligence and temperament to serve as our next Speaker of the House.”
